Winter Meteor Shower

Deb was commenting on my other meteor shower paintings last week and mentioned "winter" falling stars, so I decided to do one. The light is different in the winter one because the light would reflect on the snow and ice and "light up" the area. (I think) That's my story and I'm sticking to it anyway LOL. I love the country side at night when it's clear and really really cold. You can hear everything for miles around. Your footsteps echo everywhere. And if the moon is out you can see for quite a distance even though it's dark. You will find the aceo (3.5" x 2.5") posted on Ebay here

Thanks for looking. :)

ACEO Playing Card Deck - 2009

Preparations for the 2009 ACEO Playing Card Deck is in full swing. I again have been lucky enough to secure a card to paint. This year I have the 7 of spades. Here is my card. These card decks (a double deck) should be available later in the summer. I'm really excited because my daughter (NennyO) Jenn is also taking part.

lighthouses, dolphins and storms Oh My!

I had these up for sale ealier last week. They didn't sell. I wasn't really happy with either of them so I did some tweaking. I took out the funnel cloud on this one and added a sailboat (poor fishermen....kind of mean plopping them down in a storm) I called this "Race against Nature". ACEO size (3.5" x 2.5") acrylic
This one I had envisioned with just dolphins dancing in the moonlight. It just didn't work, so I added a lighthouse to give it some depth. We'll see how it goes. "Dancing in the Moonlight" ACEO acrylic.
You will find both of these listed on Ebay here

Sunrise/Sunset aceo - Mermaid fantasy piece

Red sky in the morning...sailors take warning.

Mermaids were bad luck......red sky in the morning was bad luck. So many things were bad luck it's a wonder sailors sailed at all. With the sun casting a yellow tinge to the wave breaking against the rocks, this is my rendition of what it could have looked like to the unsuspecting sailor.

Listed here on Ebay. Enjoy!

Moccasin Beading - Work in progress

Slow and steady wins the race they say. I have the top of the foot about 80% done. It's been a learning process. You can see how the beads make it so much brighter. The bottom piece just has the pattern (no beads) on it.

Older Painting - Spider's Web

"Oh what a tangled web we weave............" A series of events last week made me think of this old saying. How true it is. Made me think of this oil painting I did a couple of years ago. An OSWOA (4" x 6") long ago sold. It is done primarily of little "drops" painted circles actually in acrylic and then layers of oils over the entire thing. It looks so mystical.

I have been tagged by one of my favourite mixed media artist. I don't think there is any medium that Deb hasn't tried and succeeded in. She's a gifted artist and one of the most kind, supportive people I know. Go look at her blog at Artshtick's Corner to see loads of Fine, Fun Art!

The rules of the Blogger's Tag game are:
1. put a link in your posting about the artist that tagged you.
2. write 5 -7 unusual things about yourself.
3. tag 5 - 7 other Bloggers and let them

Some unusual facts about me are: my life isn't that unusual so it's not going to be easy :)

1. I used to be a stock broker and in fact Branch Senior, Options Trading Supervisor are some of the titles I've held.

2. One of my favourite things to do is camping and have a secret desire to own a RV/campground in the mountains (preferrably near Nelson BC) someday.

3. I like to work on our family tree in my spare time and have met many distant "cousins" on the internet while researching.

4. I hate bananas with an absolute passion. It makes me sick just to think of them!

5. I am allergic to wasp stings and have an absolute phobia of them!

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

We are doing something special with the kids and grandchildren tonight. A valentine themed supper! Ham (pink) pasta salad (with red veggies in it) Red jelly salad....Red Wine....Red Juice
oops I forgot....garlic shrimp for a starter (pink) and a "death by chocolate" dessert (with pink whipped cream) I just am not sure what vegetable to do for a side dish......
Goodie bags for the grands...... It should be a blast!

Lightning Storm Forming over Sea

"Storm Beginning" 3.5" x 2.5" (aceo) acrylic. I like the idea of a storm beginning somewhere at sea. Will it stay out there or will it make land? This one is just starting. The water hasn't gotten rough yet..........

I have listed it on Ebay here

Mermaid - Storm Painting - Small format -

It's been ages since I painted an OSWOA (original small work of art) OSWOA's have to be 4" x 6" and the original. Anything else is not an OSWOA. (oswoa is a trademarked name) They fit in the standard photograph sleeve (or can be framed on their own) and are highly sought after by collectors.

It's also been ages since I painted a mermaid. Human"ish" figures just aren't my favorite to paint. So today I decided to combine the two and have come up with this painting. "Nature's Symphony" I have listed it on Ebay here

Commission finished - Nature's Splendor

I'm very pleased with how this OSWOA turned out. (6" x 4" acrylic) Similar to the aceo "Lightning Dance" but different. Scarey and calm all at once. I was asked to do this, keeping the pinks and blues in the painting. My name of course is not on the actual painting in red like that. I love storms. (the kind that don't wreck anything) There is nothing better in the summer than grabbing a hot chocolate, sit on the deck and watch the storms come up in the distance.

New Blog for you to visit - My daughters

One of my all time favourites (a gift to us that hangs in the front entry)

Jenn (NennyO) has her new art blog up and running. She was actually painting and selling before I was, but she took some time off to have some kids. Her and I got into the ATC movement in a big way and then proceeded to aceo from there.

She has started listing her art on Ebay again.
Please stop by and comment on her blog...a work in progress at:

Beaded Moccasins - Work in Progress

I have always loved moccasins. In the 80's I made them for my kids, husband and my brother. I kept putting off making a pair for myself. In the meantime, the place in town where you could purchase the hide, fur for trim and leather thread etc closed it's doors. ( A good thing, because it was an old stinky ramshackle place with horror stories of what lived in it!) I can't believe I went in there and picked through the hide. Anyway, I procrastinated and never got the moccasins made for myself.
You can see the beads make it so much brighter on the pattern.
In December I was lucky and received a beautiful moccasin kit from a friend of mine who has the Ebay store "Fabric Fotos"
Char is a registered member of the Choctaw Nation and has the most wonderful things in her store.

I haven't made this style of moccasin before and can't wait to see how it turns out.
This is the start of my work in progress in making my moccasins. Althought they would be pretty with just the printed pattern, I've decided I'm going to brush up my beading skills and bead the entire pattern. Thank you Char for giving me the tips you did yesterday! It's going so much smoother now that I'm not going right through the hide. I realized today that these are wonderfully soft deer hide and the ones I made years ago were from cow hide. Not the same at all. The deerhide is so much superior.

The photos are what I accomplished in 3 days LOL. I am sure as I get more comfortable with it that I'll get faster. Stay tuned. I'll post more photos over the next few weeks so you can see how they turn out.
