Another WIP - Coloured Pencils

This is a Work In Progress at the moment. Still practising the Masterful Color technique by Arlene Steinberg with coloured pencils. Amazing how a green strawberry turns into a red one (or at least I hope it does) This will be a drawing of a strawberry floating in champagne in a crystal glass. Come back in a few days to the how it's progressing.

A study of Cherries Work in Progress

The above piece was done for the Abstract Art, Traditional Art & Collectors June Group Challenge. We were given a choice of 6 reference photos to work from I chose this one. You can see the work in progress in the above photos. The top pic is the "real" photo. I always start at the back of the painting and work my way forward. Adding shadows and highlights last.
Abstract Art, Traditional Art and Collectors Group Challenge

I just joined this group of artists and decided to take part in their June art challenge. There was a choice of about 6 still lifes. The top is the actual photo. The bottom is my painting of it. I chose cherries. This is a 4" x 6" OSWOA done with acrylics. It is listed here on Ebay

June theme Swap - Under the Sea

These are my two submissions to the June art card swap. Theme: Under the Sea. Both are of icebergs with the larger part "under the sea" showing. Both have a whale in the painting. You can't tell in these pics, but I put a small amount of "glitter" on the icebergs to give them a "crystal" effect.

June Fireflies

It's June. I remember as a kid, going out at night and kicking the wet grass at my uncle's farm. With any luck the fireflies would light up and we could catch some. We always let them go at the end of the evening but it was a challenge to see how many we could catch.
We don't see them much where we live now. Oh, there around, but I don't go down and kick the grass by the water anymore :) It's been cold this month so they probably are around yet anyway.
Here are a couple of paintings to celebrate that childhood memory. You can find them here, or search southshoreartist on Ebay.

Fuchsia - Flower of the Month EBSQart 2nd entry

Fairy Shower Using the dew from the fuchsia, a woodland fairy showers in the dawn's first light.
I painted this for the EBSQart flower of the month show. It is a 4" x 6" acrylic and oil. I started out just painting the scene white on a black background. Once the fairy's skin tones etc were finished I then started layering an oil "wash" onto the painting. The combination gives the painting depth. I finished by highlighting with white oil. Enjoy.

My entry into this month's (June) FLower of the Month exhibition at EBSQart. 4" x 6" acrylic painted on 170 lb canvas paper.
2008 ACEO Deck of Cards - An Artist's Collaberation

The ACEO ~ Art Cards, Editions and Originals Playing Card Deck is a collaboration of 54 international ACEO artists who will have their artwork appearing on a fully functional deck of playing cards. Each artist has been assigned a specific Number card, Face card, Ace or Joker where their artwork will appear along side their ebay username.
I have been fortunate to be included in this project. My card is the 9 of diamonds. ( I was going to say note the 9 of diamonds on the logo, but that would be tacky wouldn't it LOL)
To learn more about the aceo movement and the deck of cards, please see the News Release at the bottom of this blog.
