Even though the days are still hot hot hot, and we are running the a/c steady, the nights have started cooling off and you can feel that "hint" of fall in the air. Got me thinking of all the fall colours that will soon be popping up everywhere. As usual will find my paintings listed on Ebay here Free shipping within Canada :)

WIP (work in progress) The Potter
This was the start of my new painting "The Potter" today. Just the basic rough shadows in this photo. I wasn't sure how to proceed. I knew how I wanted her to look, but didn't really know how to get it on the canvas.I finished her this afternoon. I wanted some colour in an otherwise very muted piece. In keeping with the series I'm doing of women working at everyday tasks she is painting some jugs. I wanted her to be working alone. One person told me today that she imagined my woman working into the late hours of the night while the family was sleeping, getting her wares ready to sell at the market. I like that notion. You will find this piece listed on Ebay here

Grouse Hunter - ACEO

"Grouse Hunter" 2.5 x 3.5" aceo
Fellow artist "Char" (amarillo-choctaw)suggested while I was painting figures, to paint a Native American figure. I want to get the earth tones needed to portray plains people. So have been experimenting. This is how "Grouse Hunter" came to be. He has to blend into the prairie in order to get close to the prairie chicken.

Northern Ligthts - Falling star paintings
It's in the -30s today. It is going to be in the -40s tomorrow with the windchill, so what better time to paint a cold crisp winter night. "Shooting Star" is an acrylic aceo (2.5" x 3.5") painted on paper canvas. It has a bit of "glitter" to give it that frosty starlit look.
"Northern Lights" is a 4" x 4" acrylic painting. I find it wierd that square seemed to be harder to paint than rectangle? I have no idea why. This one also has glitter, but I added just the slightest hint of blue and green in the northern lights to add to the magic :)You will find them both listed on Ebay here

Meteorite at Buzzard Coulee, Sk - Northern Lights

I painted two new aceo (art card editions & originals) today. Both winter scenes, but the first one depicts a strange event that took place over Saskatchewan and Alberta November 20. A large meteorite burned through earth's atmosphere and was seen by both provinces. My daughter saw it and said the scene was spectacular!!! Pieces were found in and around a pond near the Buzzard Coulee region in SaskatchewanSo I named the first painting "Meteorite and Buzzard Coulee"
The bottom aceo is a winter night scene with Northern Lights shining down on a lone snowman.

Lightning Storm painting with horse
Here is a new painting tonight. I don't usually paint animals and certainly not a horse running, but I thought "what the heck" I'll give it a try. So here is an aceo titled "Running with the Storm" or if the horse had a brain he would be running away from the storm! Painted with acrylics, it is aceo size (2.5" x 3.5") I have listed it on Ebay here
